At the University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle, Washington, he completed a general surgery internship and a fellowship in neurosurgery. He continued with a fellowship in skull base surgery at Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, Virginia, before completing a residency in neurosurgery at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. 

Throughout his years of training and the years since, Dr. Malik has held numerous clinical positions and has been an assistant professor in the department of neurosurgery at the University of Texas Medical Center in Houston, Texas. He is also active at multiple hospitals in the greater Houston, Texas, area.
